2027 GMC Sierra 1500

The next-generation 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 has officially been previewed, and it’s the most substantial update the full-size truck has seen in years. New sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines headline a lineup that also gets an all-new exterior, a completely redesigned interior, and an expanded suite of premium technology. That combination matters for Prince Albert drivers heading north toward the lakes for the weekend or working job sites that stretch along Highway 2 and Highway 3, where a truck needs to handle rougher terrain without giving up everyday comfort. Two trims anchor the range: the flagship Denali Ultimate, focused on luxury and technology, and the AT4X, built for serious off-road use. According to GMC, the first 2027 Sierra 1500 models are set to reach dealership lots before the end of the 2026 calendar year, with full technical details to follow ahead of launch.

What’s new on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500?

Exterior

GMC rebuilt the Sierra’s exterior from the ground up for 2027, describing the design as sharper and more machine-precise, with a stance meant to feel more planted at speed. The familiar headlamp and taillamp shapes return, now updated with available welcome and farewell light animations along with GMC’s signature WOM lighting elements. A more upright grille gives the front end a squared, confident look that suits a truck built to spend time on gravel roads leading into the boreal forest north of the city.

Each trim gets its own visual signature, including available quad exhaust outlets on select models. The AT4X stands apart with an exclusive hood design and a 2-inch suspension lift, adding the ground clearance drivers want when heading toward the lake country around Prince Albert National Park. Rather than one shared look across the lineup, GMC has leaned into giving buyers a truck that visually matches how they plan to use it.

Interior

The interior overhaul is just as thorough, with completely new cabins across every trim level. Exclusive colourways and upgraded materials run throughout, and available real wood trim accents appear across the lineup, moving up to forged wood on the Denali Ultimate. An available panoramic sunroof adds more natural light than past generations offered, and crew cab front-row head and leg room is now class-leading — a real plus for anyone spending long stretches behind the wheel on northern Saskatchewan’s highways.

None of that comes at the cost of usability. The all-new available MultiPro centre console opens to create an extended work surface, complete with available USB charge ports, keeping the cabin functional without looking cluttered. For tradespeople and outdoor enthusiasts alike, having a proper workspace built into the console is a small detail that adds up over a full day on the road.

Powertrain

Sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines, offered in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements, sit at the centre of the next-generation Sierra’s powertrain lineup. GMC points to advances in combustion, cooling, and control systems designed to improve refinement while reinforcing durability both on- and off-road, alongside a new fuel injection system aimed at optimizing power and torque across everything from daily commutes to towing and rock crawling.

Rounding out the lineup is an enhanced TurboMax engine offering class-leading standard torque and a class-exclusive Duramax diesel, with every available engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Exact horsepower and torque figures haven’t been released yet — GMC says that information is coming closer to the Sierra’s on-sale date.

Technology

Technology reaches its highest point in the lineup on the Denali Ultimate, which packs more than 60 inches of combined available digital displays — the most in its class. That includes a new 16.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen with class-exclusive articulation and hidden storage, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen with an articulating cover of its own, a 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre, and a 15-inch multicolour Head-Up Display projecting speed, navigation, and available driver-assistance alerts onto the windshield. An 8.5-inch Rear Camera Mirror widens the view out back, useful when the bed is loaded for a trip to the lake.

Standard on Denali Ultimate is a three-year Super Cruise subscription with trailering capability, supporting hands-free driving on more than 965,000 kilometres of compatible roads across Canada and the United States, including while towing. Automatic Lane Change and Turn Signal Initiated Lane Change add further assistance on long northern drives.

Versions

The 2027 Sierra 1500 will be offered in six trims: Pro, Elevation, AT4, Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X. Pro and Elevation cover the practical end of the lineup, built for everyday capability.

AT4 and AT4X focus on off-road readiness, with AT4X adding Sierra-first 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, and front and rear e-locking differentials not offered elsewhere in its class. Denali and Denali Ultimate top the range, combining standard V8 power with the most complete technology and materials package GMC has ever put into a Sierra. Buyers wanting to push capability even further will still be able to add the AEV Edition package once the truck arrives on lots.
